Apple iPad

Apple iPad

As you have probably all heard at this point, Apple today has released the Apple iPad.  But instead of listing what the iPad does, its feature sets, its specs (etc) I am here to discuss what my opinion of the iPad is.

Many people were let down by the announcement today, questioning how this product had gained so much hype.  What made the iPod and iPhone so exciting was how they were completely new products, with interfaces never seen before.  The iPad wasn’t as much as a new concept, but more of a evolution of two products, the Mac and the iPhone/iPod.  It provides what theoretically is perfect combination of the Mac and the iPhone to make a mobile device that doesn’t make compromises.  It theoretically makes the product better in both fields.

The major response to this product from consumers is confusion of where this product fits in with our current market.  People are all asking whats the market for this item?  What is this?  I DON’T GET THIS.  The concept we have to wrap our head around is that this isn’t like the iPhone or the iPod.  They came into a market that was already created (mp3 player and smartphone market) whereas the tablet doesn’t yet have a market.  Instead of perfecting a product that already exists, they are attempting create a new market.  What we don’t realize is how ambitious this is for Apple to do.   They are attempting to create an entire new market, the market of all future mobile devices.  I think its time to just wait and see what Apple does with this product and how they decide to change the mobile market.  Either way, whether you like it or not, the iPad will have a major influence on the world of mobile devices.
